I was raised Catholic in my early years before we left my birth father. One of the most lasting memories is a little book we studied, a book for children about good and evil. When a child would make a wrong decision and sin, his or her heart acquired a little black spot. It's one of the most enduring images I took from my childhood, and I can't do a heart without including a dark spot on it. Likely for Scraps, Jim Dine I'm not
This is part of WIP with He created the lineart for the heart, the little binding ropes haven't been worked on yet.
This really question me It is a complicate painting, looks like an electric bulb on an hand, and on the other hand it is a heart nested between the lungs, and there is mysterious lines across, , and why catholic? is it your heart?
I was raised Catholic as well, and I believe I remember (very dimly!) what you're referring to! What a wonderful picture -- it's very touching to me ...
It`s very lovely, sad and sweet... that spot would dissapear with all the good things I`ve seen you do in DA!!! Because, the good erases the bad you know ....
You know I am catholic and I undestand this image more than you would know...
"There's a little black spot on the sun today", sang Sting, when he was still in the Police, and I, for some reason, always made "There's a little black spot on my heart today", in my mind. I was raised catholic, too, and I learned I could never be pure enough for that spot or the Sin I had inherited from Eve to be erased. Well, a heart with spots to me is always more beautiful than one that has never seen any pain or evil. It is maybe only by knowing dark that the light (or all the interesting scales of gray) can become a choice . I love the colours of this!

It's a very striking image, I think. I grew up among Catholic people as well, and I came to the conclusion, as I got older, that Catholicism is built around guilt-- they just want to make people feel bad everything, for the love of god!
