Description
Illustration for 's Challenge entry 'The Maltese Hippogriff' where ls269 channelled noir writer Raymond Chandler.
In fairness, I should call this 'The Matisse Hippogriff' since the colors are so saturated . . . but I did attempt to put a tawdry 'pulp' look to this as Snape squints over his shoulder at the viewer, while Ice Princess Narcissa looks on.
ls269's awesome Challenge entry - fav.me/d34cnb0
Challenge @ Spinner's still on till 1/9 or thereabouts, check it here - spinners--end.deviantart.com/b…

I love how the viewer is a part of the scene, pulled in by Snape's side-eye. It is in no way a friendly glare but it still sets my heart aflutter . And as always, everything about his profile is fantastic: the nose, the arched eyebrow, but in particular the cigarette in the corner of the mouth, which accentuates his most snapish sneer.
The other thing I really like is the color scheme. The reddish-orange and blue complement each other perfectly and frankly I can't figure out why, because they are not actually complementary (on the color wheel). But they work and make this a visually striking pic.
